Food Addicts Anonymous is an organization that believes that Food Addiction is a biochemical disorder that occurs at a cellular level and therefore cannot be cured by willpower or by therapy alone. We feel that food addiction is not a moral or character issue. This Twelve Step program believes that food addiction can be managed by abstaining from (eliminating) addictive foods, following a program of sound nutrition (a food plan), and working the Twelve Steps of the program. After we have gone through a process of withdrawal from addictive foods many of us have experienced miraculous life-style changes. There are no dues or fees required for membership, but only a desire to stop eating addictive foods.

This new exhibit at the History Museum hinges on Appleton’s evolution from a fledgling manufacturing town to a modern industrial center. Through a collection of 3,000 photographs, amateur photographer W.D. Schlafer captured this rapidly changing environment during the Progressive Era in the Fox Cities. Visitors will see how much Appleton and the Fox Cities evolved as new technologies and ideas changed the lives of area residents during this transformative period.

On behalf of the Buckholz-Klein family, we are pleased to "Pay It Forward" and are holding a benefit in their honor on May 5th, 2012 from Noon-Midnight at City Inn in Berlin, WI. The benefit will include children's games, prizes, raffles, an auction and the live band, Bo...ogie and the YoYo'z!

On September 4, 2011 – Devlin Klein was tragically killed in an automobile accident. Devlin had just begun his senior year at Berlin High School and had aspirations to attend Fox Valley Technical College following graduation. At a time of such peril, Devlin’s mother and stepfather were preparing to introduce their newest member to the family. Shannon, Devlin’s mother, was induced in order to birth her youngest son in time to make funeral arrangements for Devlin. Ryan Buckholz was born on September 6, 2011 – just two days after his eldest brother became an angel. Unfortunately, just 26 short days after Ryan entered the world, tragedy struck again. His mother and father noticed him struggling to breathe and immediately took him to the Berlin Memorial Hospital. Within hours, he was flown to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee. Ryan was diagnosed with Cor Triatriatum, a heart with three atria. Cor Triatriatum is a rare congenital cardiac anomaly, in which the left or right atrium is divided in two by a membrane. In an effort to save Ryan’s life, surgeons performed open-heart surgery, their only option. After 24 days in the NICU, Ryan was released to be home with his family. Due to an emergency surgery and a less than perfect recovery, Ryan must receive shots and medications on a daily basis. A blood clot still exists within Ryan’s defenseless body and he struggles with each and every breath he takes, due to having a paralyzed diaphragm. While mourning the loss of her oldest son and nurturing the life of her youngest, Shannon found herself entering her own battle. Shortly after bringing Ryan home from the hospital, Shannon had a thyroidectomy performed as she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Shannon started radiation therapy on December 15, 2011. During her treatment, she is to be isolated and cannot have any direct contact with her children and family. Shannon will also need to maintain a medication regimen for the remainder of her life. The family has found themselves in a nightmarish reality. Unable to work full-time, as they must attend to not only their children, but Shannon’s health, they no longer have health insurance coverage or a steady income. If there’s ever been a family who lives by the motto, “Pay It Forward”, it’s this family. The Buckholz-Klein family consists of Paul and Shannon (Longsine) Buckholz and their children, Devlin and Louden Klein and William, Adam and Ryan Buckholz.

Bob Howard, a long-time Green Bay business owner of the Razz-Ma-Tazz and Buster’s Bar & Grill needs our help. On October 30, 2011 Bob was admitted into the ICU at a local hospital due to a rare blood clotting disorder. He was eventually air lifted to UW Madison where he remained in ICU for several weeks. Thankfully Bob was well enough to be released from the hospital on December 23, 2011, but only after hearing he had maxed out his medical insurance.

Bob is improving day by day. However, his medical and living expenses are mounting. Family, friends and loved ones will be holding a "Celebration Benefit" for Bob on April 29th at the Riverside Ballroom from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m. A Basket Raffle, Paddle Wheel Raffle, Silent Auction, and DJ Crazy Ray will be featured at the benefit. Booyah and refreshments will be available for purchase.

The Coalition is hosting its third annual Green Parade. The parade will be held downtown in the Broadway District beginning at 11:00 a.m. All entries and floats will be green powered (i.e., solar powered, electric, man-powered, etc.). Come out and cheer on local businesses, conservation groups, and civic/charitable groups who will be spreading the "green" word around. This is a great family event.

The Coalition is sponsoring an Eco-Block Party immediately after the Green Parade. The block party is being held at Veterans Memorial Park, directly adjacent to the Neville Museum. There may also be events at the Neville Museum as the Coalition is teaming up with the Museum this year in celebrating Earth Day. There will be green friendly vendors and activities at the Block Party in celebration of Earth Day. There will be plenty of activities for children to engage in, as well as adults to learn about sustainability and living a "greener" life. This is another great family event.

CITIZENSFIRST AIDS HABITAT RECYCLING EFFORT

OSHKOSH, Wisconsin (April 20, 2011) – For the second year in a row, CitizensFirst will partner with Habitat for Humanity in what has become one of Fond du Lac’s biggest recycling events. A service offered free of charge, it’s one more way CitizensFirst is helping Habitat build a better tomorrow.

Entitled “Fond du Lac Recycle Day,” the event takes place Saturday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the CitizensFirst branch at 1045 E. Johnson St., Fond du Lac. During these hours participants can bring in up to three boxes of documents to be shredded at no cost by Automated Records Management Systems Inc. A free will donation for the service will go help fund the Habitat program in Fond du Lac.

Outdated televisions, microwaves, video players, computers and stereos will similarly be collected to benefit the Habitat for Humanity ReStore of Fond du Lac County. The ReStore will also accept drop offs of new or gently used building equipment and materials.
