"It is a powerful film, revealing that we are allowing our young people to be so profoundly disconnected from the natural world and denying them the opportunity to fully develop their senses. How uplifting to see these young adults grow before our eyes under the nurturing and stimulating effects of their wilderness experience. We are left with the redeeming message that it is not too late! We can and must unplug our children, give them the access to the natural world that is so essential to their development, and restore childhood!"

(formerly known as The Rainbow Classic)
The Families of Children With Cancer are pleased to announce that the annual Run/Walk Fundraiser formally known as The Rainbow Classic is being changed in title to the Gold Ribbon Run/Walk this year. This change creates a direct connection between the Childhood Cancer Gold Ribbon awareness pins and this great fundraising event.
The “Gold Ribbon Run/Walk” is the primary fundraising event of the Families of Children with Cancer, and is being held at Green Isle Park, in Allouez, July 23, 2011, beginning at 8:30am. This is a fun, family oriented event that includes a 2 mile and/or 5 mile run or walk for all age groups and skill levels. The event has enjoyed a great level of success in recent years, even when the weather is less than favorable. We’re hoping 2011 is a banner year, setting a goal for hosting well over 800 walkers/joggers. The race will use timing chips for all participants. As in past years, there will be a fun celebration after the race is completed.
The Families of Children with Cancer organization is a non-profit agency supported by tax-deductible contributions and fundraising activities. The FOCWC provides funding for summer camp for children with Cancer, several social outings, support for children after clinic visits, a resource library for patients and limited financial resources for those families struggling with the financial burden of medical care.
If you would are interested in participating or willing to volunteer for this event please email John Miller at john@focwc.org. Race Registration can also be completed online at www.Active.com.

In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson delivered an address and placed a wreath at the Confederate Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery to commemorate its unveiling. This monument, built by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, represents a sectional celebration and a national appreciation of the southern cause during the Civil war. President Wilson was the first of many Presidents to do this. This tradition was continued by President Barack Obama, the nation’s first African American president, which raises the important question about the extent to which the nation has resolved the meaning of the Civil War. By concentrating on this Symbol of reunion, Professor Vincent Lowery will explore the white Southerners’ determination to remember the Confederacy after its death, the terms of national reunion that required white Northerners to forget, the consequent place of African Americans in national memory, and the course of racial progress in the United States since Emancipation.
Funded in party by a grant from the Wisconsin Humanities Council, with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the State of Wisconsin.
The Civil War Lecture Series is held in conjunction with the Neville's exhibit, Badger Boys: Northeast Wisconsin and the Civil War.

The Preble Music Parents is an organization that serves students in band, orchestra, and choir at Preble High School. We are currently taking on the challenge to raise $100,000.00 to "Dress the Department." Our greatest need is new band uniforms, which are in disrepair. We do not even have enough uniforms to outfit the band for next school year and with a trip to Disney World this November, we are feeling a real sense of urgency! We also are hoping to purchase new concert wear for the orchestra, band, and choirs. We have been engaged in various fund-raising events to raise money and Instrumental Music Company was kind enough to offer us the opportunity to raise more. We hope you can come to our brat fry and support our great cause-thanks!
