You’re invited to the Oshkosh Chamber Singers’ 25th anniversary celebration and Director’s Choice Concert on April 2nd, for a selection of Dr. Carl Chapman’s favorite choral music.
You’ll enjoy classic works including a Bach cantata and Brahms’ Gypsy Songs. Hear some of the best contemporary classics like Gustav Holst’s “Nunc Dimittis” and Morten Lauridsen’s “Ave Maria” as well as some new classics including an evocative arrangement of James Taylor’s “That Lonesome Road”.
“This is music that reflects the talents of the singers”, says Dr. Chapman, founding artistic director and conductor. The Oshkosh Chamber Singers were conceived out of a performance of Bach’s St. John’s Passion performed by the combined church choirs of First Congregational and Algoma Boulevard Methodist, and conducted by Dr. Chapman.
With that inspiration, Oshkosh Chamber Singers was organized and the first concert was presented in 1986. Throughout its 25 years, the choir has continued to interpret some of the finest of music’s choral masterworks including last fall’s triumphant and critically acclaimed performance of Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana.” Several of the choir’s original members still sing with the group, and Marianne Chaudoir has continued as principal accompanist since its founding. The choir attracts some of the best talent in the valley: singers looking for the challenge and quality of the music Chamber Singers presents.
The 25th Anniversary Concert is on Saturday April 2 at 7:30 pm in the Arts and Communication building’s Music Hall on UW-O Campus. Tickets are $17 ($14 in Advance, $5 for Students) and are available at Heid Music, 1750 West South Park Ave. , Apple Blossom Books, 200E City Center, from Choir members, and by calling 920-233-3312. More information is available at oshkoshchambersingers.com
