What was Appleton like during the Progressive Era (1850 – 1920)? The turn of the century was a period of speculation and excitement. Americans felt the excitement of world fairs and new technologies entering their daily lives. This new exhibit at the History Museum hinges on Appleton’s evolution from a fledgling manufacturing town to a modern industrial center. Through a collection of 3,000 photographs, amateur photographer W.D. Schlafer captured this rapidly changing environment during the Progressive Era in the Fox Cities. Visitors will see how much Appleton and the Fox Cities evolved as new technologies and ideas changed the lives of area residents during this transformative period.

• Explore, design, and create a myriad of paper flowers made with a vast range of techniques, including: tissue folding, Krimp Art, and origami. On May 5th, there will be a special Cinco de Mayo Theme and on May 12th a special Mother's Day theme in the paperlab when you make your hand-made sheet of paper.

Perennials, annuals, and houseplants for sale. Monies raised support student scholarships, public gardens, and club activities.

The 22nd annual three-day Celebrate De Pere festival kicks off on Friday, May 26, 2012 at Voyageur Park on the Fox River. One of the premier outdoor festivals held in Wisconsin, Celebrate De Pere will feature live music, family activities and a spectacular fireworks display. Crowd favorites like the Redneck Regatta, Car Show and Fishing Tournament will also be held again this year. This volunteer-run event is hosted by The Celebrate Committee Inc., whose mission is to help raise money for a number of local non-profit groups. Advance tickets can be purchased beginning April 2. Step into a comical world of 1950's pop culture with Ricky Bernstein's Kitchen Dreams. Using glass, aluminum and childhood memories, artist Ricky Bernstein pieces together everyday life through a caricature of social roles and cultural icons. Bernstein;s life-sized collages animate a bold, bright, somewhat surreal world, bound to bring you a good belly laugh. Eat Well, Play Well, a special exhibit running April 7 to Sept. 9 at The Building for Kids Children’s Museum, encourages healthy living by teaching the science of making healthy food choices and helping children and adults discover there are many fun and interesting ways to stay active. Visitors will discover through interactive exhibits what an appropriate serving size looks like, see firsthand what it takes to burn off calories, test their flexibility and balance, review the latest clinical research and realize they can reduce their risk of disease with healthy choices

Consisting of 48 individual mosaics created by people affected by cancer and other illnesses, the mosaic wall uses creative self-expression as a powerful vehicle for holistic healing of body, mind, and spirit. This project is sponcered by Beacon House, Inc., a non-profit, volunteer sustained resourse center in Green Bay whose mission is to support the life changing process of healing. Event is free. Will be on exhibit May 1 through 31, 2012.

The Green Bay Art Colony will have an exhibit, inspired by poetry, at the ARTgarage. On display will be work in a variety of media that is accompanied by an appropriate poem of the individual artist’s choice.

This will be held from May 1^st through the 30^th of the month. The ARTgarage is open from noon to 6PM on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; noon to 8 PM on Thursday; noon to 4 PM on Saturday and located at 1400 Cedar Street. Check their web site at info@artgarage.org .

The Green Bay Packers present Football the Exhibit- the Neville’s new, interactive display which explores the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) behind the game! Football includes a mixture of artifacts, text, video and hands-on activities with something for everyone! See how you hold up to a lineman by measuring your strength with the “Grip Tester.” Think you're fast enough to out-run the defense? Then bring your running shoes to the Sprint Track. Football covers everything from the history of the sport, to the equipment, to the cutting edge medical technology used to treat common injuries. You’ll also discover key concepts like collisions, peripheral vision, and balance, too. So what are you waiting for? Put your helmet on, get in there and score a touchdown at Football!
Football the Exhibit is presented by the Green Bay Packers with additional support from Associated Bank, Prevea Sports Medicine and NBC 26. Football has been developed by the Museum of Discovery, Little Rock, Arkansas.
