Amputee Support group

An amputee group is forming in Green Bay. The group is open to amputees and family members who are interested in sharing some of their challenges with regard to limb loss.

Children are born to learn! This program will help parents find out how to encourage their child's learning throughout the early years. Topics covered with include how to support your child's development, effective discipline, creating a learning friendly household, and how to avoid some common parenting mistakes. A snack and free childcare is provided.

The Surise Optimist Club meets every Thursday morning 7:30 at the Harmony Cafe at 1660 West Mason Street Green Bay. Our goal is to help the kids at Jefferson Middle School. Join us for Breakfast and decide if you would like to join our club. Questions contact John at 920-360-5711.

Join us the first Thursday of every month for Kirtan- call-and-response chanting, involving a combination of sound, vibration, melody, harmony, and Sanskrit mantras. A student of David Newman (Durga Das) Dennis Hawk will lead attendees in a Kirtan that will calm the mind and open the heart.

What was Appleton like during the Progressive Era (1850 – 1920)? The turn of the century was a period of speculation and excitement. Americans felt the excitement of world fairs and new technologies entering their daily lives. This new exhibit at the History Museum hinges on Appleton’s evolution from a fledgling manufacturing town to a modern industrial center. Through a collection of 3,000 photographs, amateur photographer W.D. Schlafer captured this rapidly changing environment during the Progressive Era in the Fox Cities. Visitors will see how much Appleton and the Fox Cities evolved as new technologies and ideas changed the lives of area residents during this transformative period.

Step into a comical world of 1950's pop culture with Ricky Bernstein's Kitchen Dreams. Using glass, aluminum and childhood memories, artist Ricky Bernstein pieces together everyday life through a caricature of social roles and cultural icons. Bernstein;s life-sized collages animate a bold, bright, somewhat surreal world, bound to bring you a good belly laugh. Hours: Tuesday - Saturday 10am-4:30pm Sunday 1-4:30pm Shop hours the same Admission to the museum is free, donations are appreciated and essential to our operations.

The “Bark N’ Blue” Benefit is a fund raising effort on behalf of the Green Bay Police Department K-9 program. The 2012 “Bark N’ Blue” is scheduled to take place on Thursday June 7th, 2012, in Downtown Green Bay at St. Brendan’s Inn. This free event is open to the public with on-site demonstrations by the K-9 teams, live music, activities for kids, and food and drink specials.

The Green Bay Police Department currently utilizes five K-9 teams. The K-9 program has one narcotic dog, Yukon (German Shepherd). The other four dogs are patrol dogs: Feit (German Shepherd), Vilak (German Shepard), George (German Shepard) and Neo (Belgian Malinois). Neo is the department’s first Belgian Malinois. In 2010, the teams were responsible for the following service calls: 135 narcotic searches, 121 narcotic finds, 102 trackings, 92 building searches, 66 prevent escapes, 120 arrests and 33 article finds. The K-9 officers and their partners add a valuable dimension to the provision of police services in this city.

The Bark N’ Blue is a community event created and run by volunteers. It serves as an educational resource, as well as an opportunity to generate funds for the program. Proceeds from the event will allow continued sustainability of K-9 services, with no financial burden to the police department. Currently all of the GBPD dogs were trained in-house by K-9 Officer Shannon Mulrine. Officer Mulrine has over 20 years of K-9 experience with the department. His expertise has allowed the police department to forego the outsourcing of K-9 training. Officer Mulrine has put the K-9 officers and their partners through initial training and also provides continual training that keeps the dogs’ and handlers’ certifications current. Providing K-9 teams the opportunity to maintain this level of training has a substantial cost to any police department. By utilizing Officer Mulrine’s expertise, GBPD has been able to save money while having a top-notch K-9 department. In 2012, Officer Mulrine is retiring from the Green Bay Police Department. The Department will be faced with the loss of this valuable resource of knowledge. Money generated from the 2012 “Bark N’ Blue” event will be allotted to “groom” a replacement for Officer Mulrine.

Time to Parade! The 2012 Butterflies & Friends on Parade starts its march the beginning of June and struts through August. Art pieces will decorate the Fox River between the Ray Nitschke Bridge and Walnut St. Bridge in Downtown Green Bay. Butterflies, turtles, bears and frogs are returning joined by a duck, otter, fish, pelicans, and snails. You can’t miss this menagerie! The Butterflies and Friends is a fundraiser for The Einstein Project whose goal it is to inspire kids through hands-on science. Eat Well, Play Well, a special exhibit running April 7 to Sept. 9 at The Building for Kids Children’s Museum, encourages healthy living by teaching the science of making healthy food choices and helping children and adults discover there are many fun and interesting ways to stay active. Visitors will discover through interactive exhibits what an appropriate serving size looks like, see firsthand what it takes to burn off calories, test their flexibility and balance, review the latest clinical research and realize they can reduce their risk of disease with healthy choices

Community 2000 is a non-for-profit organization that assists individuals living under the poverty level in the Seymour and Shiocton School District. Our mission is "to assist individuals with basic needs and to promote better use of available resources within a community while aiding and promoting self-sufficiency". We don't want to be the "bandaid"-we want to find the financial problem that people are in and help them to come up with a long term solution-not only will it better their lives but also our community.

The Waterboard Warriors Water Ski Team offers a family-friendly environment, performing free ski shows for the community. The show provides a variety of acts including large pyramids, barefooting, jump, strap doubles, ballet, and more. The show is themed with costumes and music for a unique and entertaining experience. The ski site is located in Brown County Park, in Wrightstown, half-way between Green Bay and Appleton on the East side of the Fox River. Many people bring lawnchairs and / or blankets to sit on during the show. Sunglasses are recommended. We do have concessions available on site including water, soda, candy, snacks, and more. We are a non-profit community organization.
