The role of volunteer Ombudsman is to become an advocate for long term care facility residents. Volunteer Ombudsman must pass a rigorous screening process in order to qualify for the position. Food Addicts Anonymous is an organization that believes that Food Addiction is a biochemical disorder that occurs at a cellular level and therefore cannot be cured by willpower or by therapy alone. We feel that food addiction is not a moral or character issue. This Twelve Step program believes that food addiction can be managed by abstaining from (eliminating) addictive foods, following a program of sound nutrition (a food plan), and working the Twelve Steps of the program. After we have gone through a process of withdrawal from addictive foods many of us have experienced miraculous life-style changes. There are no dues or fees required for membership, but only a desire to stop eating addictive foods.

Historic walking tour exploring the center section of Oshkosh’s Riverside Cemetery, first platted in 1887. Using early-20th century newspaper accounts as resources, the tour concentrates on the cemetery as a piece of property which truly reflected and changed with the times. CHAPS Academy Announces 8^th Annual Fall Frolic & Family Fun Day

Fun family activities are the focus of CHAPS Academy’s 8^th Annual Fall Frolic & Family Fun Day set for Saturday, October 13^th from 10:00 am – 4:00 p.m. at the CHAPS facility in Shiocton. Though admission is free, donations of any amount are appreciated.
The event, sponsored by Duell Strategies, benefits the children and families served by CHAPS. Family-friendly activities such as face painting, a children’s rodeo, inflatable games, hayrides, pony and camel rides, and a petting zoo will be featured. The event will also showcase Rhia the Trick Horse, featuring Derrick Dupler, and a performance by the Mirror Image Dance Academy. Live and silent auctions and raffles throughout the day will also be available.
Through the use of equine-assisted activities, CHAPS serves children and families experiencing emotional and/or behavioral difficulties, primarily providing suicide prevention and intervention services. CHAPS programming empowers those in need to achieve ongoing productivity and success within the home, at school, at work, and in the community.

Living Well with Diabetes is a six week class lasting 2.5 hours each week. Learn techniques to deal with the symptoms of diabetes, fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia, stress and emotional problems such as depression, anger, fear and frustration. Other topics include: appropriate exercise, healthy eating, appropriate use of medications, and working more effectively with health care providers.

This is for anyone living with diabetes or living with or caring for someone with diabetes.

For the past five years, Spring Lake Church and Aquaid Lifeline of the United Kingdom have provided clean water, medical care, daily nutrition, and education to AIDS orphans of Funsani, Malawi, Africa. This race has dug two wells for Funsani and a neighboring village, sent medical teams to care and document health issues of the village, and provided daily nutrition forroughly 200 orphans. This 5K and 10K run/walk is along beautiful residential streets with amazingly encouraging course volunteers at every corner. This program will discuss and practice mindfulness meditation, which is the shifting of one's attention to be more fully aware of moment-to-moment experiences in life. This course explores the various types of meditations including walking, sitting and breathing with mindful awareness, gentle yoga postures, and body scan techniques. Use the wisdom of the body and mind to face stress, pain, and illness. This class session also includes the half day Saturday retreat.

The class fee includes a set of CD's for home study. There will be a discount of $15 for those participants who took the Mindfulness Meditation Introduction on Tuesday, October 16th.

This class meets once a week for 8 weeks, but the first class will be 2 hours long. PreRegistration is required.

The Saintly Stitchers' are holding their biannual quilt show in Norway, Michigan from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., October 6, 2012 at the Evangelical Covenant Church,

Wild Rose Community Memorial Hospital is hosting its second annual Casino Night Fundraiser to raise funds for our diagnostic women's health services. The night will include: raffles, silent auction items, entertainment, food, drinks, and gambling with play money. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

Rochele (Szprejda) Jaskolski is in need of a kidney transplant. She is a diabetic and found out her kidneys are deteriorating. In August 2011 she was told she would need to start dialysis this year. She lost her license due to the medications she was taking. Shelly will be starting dialysis in August 2012, and will need to travel to Green Bay every other day. She will also be traveling to Madison once a month once she is signed up on the list. She has type B+ blood and will be put on the bottom of the list. Shelly and her husband need to build a sterile room so she can so her dialysis at home. The money raised will be going for hospital bills, transportation and a sterile room.

Appreciation Steak Fry-“Honoring our Wounded Heroes”

Each year, My Brother’s Keeper, Inc. hosts an appreciation steak fry to honor someone special in our community. This year the event will honor 3 local wounded soldiers.-Our Heroes.

· Justin Lane-Green Bay, WI Army Reserves 428^th Division 23 years old. Stationed in Afghanistan in 2010 injured by an IED that went off directly under his vehicle and Justin sustained substantial injuries including losing both of his legs.

· Gauge Griffin-La Crosse, WI While serving in Iraq on July 12^th 2011 in a routine foot patrol Gauge was involved in an incident that would forever change his life. Injuries to his lower left leg resulted in an amputation below the knee, his right leg broken, and knee cap shattered. Unfortunately, the physical wounds were the least of Gauge’s injuries, his brain started to swell which resulted in TBI. On May 3^rd he was finally able to come home and continues to recover at home.

· Derek Gagne-Wilson, MI While proudly serving in Iraq, he sustained life changing injuries. A mine blew up under his Humvee, take the lives away from his friends and changing his life forever. Derek lost his right leg from the knee down, the toes on his left foot, his left eye, and hearing in his left ear. What he did not lose is his spirit and fight to life He was out of Walter Reed hospital in 9 months and for someone who sustained injuries as he did that is unbelievable. He has such a positive attitude on life it is contagious.

The funds raised at this year’s event will specifically contribute toward male mentoring sessions provided by My Brother’s Keeper, Inc.:

· One-on-One Mentoring Clients meet with one of our mentors. Problem areas are identified; causes of the problems discussed and plans jointly developed for the individuals to take control of their lives. The clients learn how to become accountable and responsible for their actions based upon a philosophy created by Harry Sydney titled “The IRS Code.” Integrity, Respect and Standards.

· Group Forum Sessions Group forum sessions for at-risk individuals are provided at area schools. They deal with issues affecting youth and help provide the life skills necessary to take control of their lives. Two types of group sessions are provided. The first deals with issues affecting young men and boys, avoidance of delinquent behavior, and the tools they need to make sound life choices. The second is an open forum and deals with the specific concerns and questions of the participants. The group sessions teach the youth to be accountable for their decisions, make those decisions ethically and honestly, effect on their course of action, and modify their behavior to improve their lives and the lives of those around them. The sessions let them know that they are not alone and help is available to help them work through their problems without resorting to delinquent/criminal behavior. An average of 24 students attends each session. Participants often are referred to follow up one-on-one mentoring sessions.

Doors open and the silent auction and raffles begin at 5:30pm, a seated dinner will be served at 6:00pm, followed by the program an oral auction hosted by Bill Jartz.

The scenes are propelled by two feisty old Polish ladies; Lottie and Bernice, who keep popping up to express their contempt for the theatre and turn it upside-down with their own brand of humor. The comedy’s ultimate conclusion is that the actors and audience desperately need one another, and that the show- as crazy as it can sometimes be - must go on.

The residents of Pensaukee will also be eligible for a special drawing including a special delivery from the fire department. We will also be having a paddle wheel and a 50/50 drawing. Mishicot’s 25th Annual Pumpkinfest will take place on Saturday, October 20, 2012. This celebration of the fall harvest is sponsored by the Mishicot Area Growth & Improvement Committee (M.A.G.I.C.). M.A.G.I.C. invites the public to enter our pumpkin contests:

Pumpkin Carving/Decorating—Bring pumpkins to the Mishicot Fire Station on Willow Drive between 9 and 10 a.m. Pumpkins are judged on originality, uniqueness, quality, and overall appearance. The top three in each division (six divisions defined by age group) will win a cash prize.

Pumpkin Weigh-in for the Home Gardener—bring your biggest pumpkin to the Mishicot Country Store, 150 East Main Street, by 9 a.m. for your chance to win.

Giant Pumpkin Growers Weigh-In --- giant pumpkins will be weighed at the Mishicot Country Store. Unloading and registration from 9 to 11 a.m.

Pumpkin Baking Contest—Categories are pies, bars/cookies, breads/muffins and decorated cakes. Pumpkin must be a main ingredient in all but the decorated cake category. Cakes should be decorated for the season. Bring your best recipes to the Mishicot Village Hall, 511 East Main Street, by 10 a.m.

All prize winners will be announced on Main Street, across from the village hall, at 11 a.m.

The exhibition runs Sept. 21 to Nov. 20.

Erica Scheinberg, lecturer of music at Lawrence, and Leslie Walfish, acting director of the Wriston galleries, open the exhibition with a presentation on German Expressionist music and art, Friday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m., followed by a reception. Free and open to the public.

Living Well with Diabetes is a six week class lasting 2.5 hours each week. Learn techniques to deal with the symptoms of diabetes, fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia, stress and emotional problems such as depression, anger, fear and frustration. BOOMERS PROD AGE-IN-PLACE REMODELING

OSHKOSH, Wisconsin (September 25, 2012) – With 80 million baby boomers rapidly approaching retirement, construction industry analysts predict that future remodeling projects will be focused on assisting homeowners to “age-in-place.” The predictions are a wake-up call for anyone past age 50.

To help area residents learn how age-related home improvements could enhance their home enjoyment long term, CitizensFirst Credit Union will present free of charge, “Aging-in-Place: Remodeling for Retirement and Beyond.” The program takes place Tuesday, Oct. 9 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Highway 44 branch, 2900 Universal St., Oshkosh. Sorting through the remodeling issues will be John Lieske of CKB Creations, Inc. Our friend, Tracy Wettstein, 49, is currently suffering from End Stage Renal Disease. About 2 ½ years ago an infection attacked her kidneys and permanently damaged them. Since October 2009 Tracy has been on dialysis 3 days a week for 3 ½ hours each cleansing. During this whole time she has been trying to find a kidney donor who could help save her life. Tracy’s blood type is B positive. This is a rather rare blood type and has been problematic in her finding a family or friend donor. She has exhausted all of these avenues and continues to urgently seek someone who could be her donor. Tracy is still working, but it is becoming increasingly more difficult for her. Tracy continues to be positive, but after waiting for more than 2 years, it is becoming more difficult.

Nell Jorgensen Buchman is a well-known Fox Valley accompanist, adjudicator, performer and teacher. Since receiving her master’s in piano performance and pedagogy, Nell has pursued an active music career at Lawrence University and throughout Wisconsin. She has performed with popular music organizations, including the Raleigh Symphony & the Cimarron Opera Company.
Linda Sparks is a performer, teacher and adjudicator. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in piano performance and a master’s in music. She has taught at the university level and regularly performs with students and faculty at Lawrence University. She also plays in collaboration with the Fox Valley Symphony, UW-Green Bay and UW-Stevens Point.

Learn how to take care of your orchestral instrument and bow. Also on hand will be four violins with different grades of strings on them for players to test response and sound.

Traveling from store to store, this string tasting is a way to sample several types of strings without having to buy them first. We have fixed one specific violin and cello model with five types of strings: Zyex, Helicore, Thomastik-Infeld, Kaplan, and Peter Infeld. These strings are of varying levels, from intermediate to advanced. In addition to being able to test these strings out, you can also enter a drawing to win a package of strings. The Fox Valley Symphony Youth Orchestra will perform in Heid Music Appleton's piano gallery. The FVSYO provides young people with quality ensemble music education, ensemble performance opportunities with high standards, and encourages personal discipline and dedication, advancing the critical links among music study, academic achievement and positive growth and development. Founded in 1974, the orchestra serves about 90 students. Students who participate in this orchestra are often highly accomplished musicians previously, and by joining are able to focus primarily on the nuances of music. These students are able to play professional level music and enter with a strong drive to play orchestral music with disipline and a high-level of musicality. Students typically in grades 9-12 are able to play many instruments in the orchestra, including strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion.

Designed for the beginning trumpet, horn, trombone and baritone students on how to take care of your instrument and how to use your care kit.

Learn how to take care of your orchestral instrument and bow. Also on hand will be four violins with different grades of strings on them for players to test response and sound.

Join the Wisconsin Maritime Museum for a unique Halloween experience. Our Maritime History Ghost Walk offers the chance to hear true Great Lakes tales with an eerie twist! During a short walk along the river, story tellers will tell the tales of haunted lighthouses and ships, tragic shipwrecks, and chilling sailor superstitions. This outdoor walk is approximately 1 hour and will take place every 15 minutes between 7:00 and 8:30 p.m. Walks will begin approximately every 15 minutes with the last walk going out at 8:30. In case of inclement weather the event will take place inside the Wisconsin Maritime Museum.

The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children (6-15). This event is not recommended for children under 5. This event is sponsored by The Mad Hatter. Cider and cookies will be available inside the museum after each tour.

POTATO PANCAKE AND BOOYAH DINNER TO BE HELD AT ST. JOHN’S RIVERSIDE

St. John’s Riverside Lutheran Church, 5686 South State Road 32 (Southeast of Gillett) will be serving their annual Potato Pancake and Chicken Booyah dinner on Sunday, October 21. The event will include a bake sale featuring a large assortment of homemade treats and a craft sale with a variety of handcrafted items. The all you care to eat meal will be served from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm and will include potato pancakes, chicken booyah, wieners, cheese, rolls, an assortment of pies and beverages. The cost is $9.00 for adults; $4.00 for children ages 6-12 years; and free for children 5 years of age and under. Carry outs will be available.

The funds raised from the event will be used to clean and paint the exterior of the church and storage shed. Supplemental funds have been applied for through Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
