The State of Wisconsin Board on Aging and Long Term Care is currently recruiting volunteer Ombudsman for Northeast Wisconsin nursing facilities. The role of volunteer Ombudsman is to become an advocate for long term care facility residents. Volunteer Ombudsman must pass a rigorous screening process in order to qualify for the position. Live music fills the air, and event-goers can sip on wine or beer as they stroll the market. They can even shop local businesses as some will be open late.

Food Addicts Anonymous is an organization that believes that Food Addiction is a biochemical disorder that occurs at a cellular level and therefore cannot be cured by willpower or by therapy alone. We feel that food addiction is not a moral or character issue. This Twelve Step program believes that food addiction can be managed by abstaining from (eliminating) addictive foods, following a program of sound nutrition (a food plan), and working the Twelve Steps of the program. After we have gone through a process of withdrawal from addictive foods many of us have experienced miraculous life-style changes. There are no dues or fees required for membership, but only a desire to stop eating addictive foods.

What was Appleton like during the Progressive Era (1850 – 1920)? The turn of the century was a period of speculation and excitement. Americans felt the excitement of world fairs and new technologies entering their daily lives. This new exhibit at the History Museum hinges on Appleton’s evolution from a fledgling manufacturing town to a modern industrial center. Through a collection of 3,000 photographs, amateur photographer W.D. Schlafer captured this rapidly changing environment during the Progressive Era in the Fox Cities. Visitors will see how much Appleton and the Fox Cities evolved as new technologies and ideas changed the lives of area residents during this transformative period.

Artstreet showcases over 200 visual artists from throughout the country. The performing arts will be featured on 3 stages highlighting a blend of jazz, blues, classical, dance and theater. There will be edible arts, a children's art area, artist demonstrators, strolling performers and much more!

Support group for people with Depression or Bipolar

This volunteer group has been together for 16 years and has received many accolades including, “Best New Original Historical Program” from the Wisconsin Historical Society in 2006. This year Heritage Players will perform, "Waterways: Stories and Songs of Wisconsin’s Lakes and Rivers." Performance begins at 1:00pm in the Moravian Church. Park admission is required. The four members of Bent Grass Band blend harmonies as they play banjo, guitar, stand up bass, mandolin and dobro. Time to Parade! The 2012 Butterflies & Friends on Parade starts its march the beginning of June and struts through August. Art pieces will decorate the Fox River between the Ray Nitschke Bridge and Walnut St. Bridge in Downtown Green Bay. Butterflies, turtles, bears and frogs are returning joined by a duck, otter, fish, pelicans, and snails. You can’t miss this menagerie! The Butterflies and Friends is a fundraiser for The Einstein Project whose goal it is to inspire kids through hands-on science. The Waterboard Warriors Water Ski Team offers a family-friendly environment, performing free ski shows for the community. The show provides a variety of acts including large pyramids, barefooting, jump, strap doubles, ballet, and more. The show is themed with costumes and music for a unique and entertaining experience. The ski site is located in Brown County Park, in Wrightstown, half-way between Green Bay and Appleton on the East side of the Fox River. Many people bring lawnchairs and / or blankets to sit on during the show. Sunglasses are recommended. We do have concessions available on site including water, soda, candy, snacks, and more. We are a non-profit community organization.

The play is a farcical dark comedy revolving around Mortimer Brewster, a drama critic who must deal with his crazy, homicidal family and local police in Brooklyn, NY, as he debates whether to go through with his recent promise to marry the woman he loves. His family includes two spinster aunts who have taken to murdering lonely old men by poisoning them with a glass of home-made elderberry wine laced with arsenic, strychnine, and "just a pinch" of cyanide"; a brother who believes he is Teddy Roosevelt and digs locks for the Panama Canal in the cellar of the Brewster home (which then serve as graves for the aunts' victims); and a murderous brother who has received plastic surgery performed by an alcoholic accomplice, Dr. Einstein to conceal his identity and now looks like horror-film actor Boris Karloff.

The Waupaca Chain Skiers perform Saturday nights on Rainbow Lake (part of the Chain 'O Lakes in King/Waupaca) at 6:30pm with a pre-show at 6pm. Family friendly shows are free and can be viewed from the lawn at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King (bring a blanket or chair). The Chain Skiers took 3rd place at the State Tournament last year and member Ryan Struve was the 2011 "D2 Most Outstanding Trick Skier" and also won the Overall Tournament "Outstanding Male Skier" award. The Chain Skiers are also holding a fundraiser at the Indian Crossing Casino on June 30th following the ski show from 8pm - 12:30am. There will be music by "The Jimmy's", huge raffle baskets, food, and fun! Admission is $5 in advance. Each year the Chain Skiers also perform an extra show on July 4th! And they will be providing a "Learn to ski day" on August 2. Come watch the entertaining tricks, jumps, pyramids, barefooting, doubles, ballet and more! On Saturday, August 4th NFFD will host their 10^th Annual Run/Walk event. This event is great for all ages and families. It is a timed 1-3-5 mile race. Registration will be held from 7:30-8:30am on August 4th. The race will begin at 8:30am rain or shine at the New Franken Fire Department located at 5077 E. Ronsman Rd, New Franken. Doors prizes will be given away at the conclusion of the race. All proceeds go to NFFD to purchase the Jaws of Life.

Beginner : This Pre-Registration based shake it up class is designed to help you better understand the movements that create the structure of belly dance and the history of this ancient dance through story telling. Teaching techniques are through isolations and muscular training. We will focus on movement break downs so that you begin with the correct techniques to perform any of the common moves, such as upper body undulations , chest circles, hip circles, drops & shimmies'. This all adds up to a great workout, however the goal of the class is proper technique and to prepare you for the next level of belly dance. This class is ideal in your 1st year of learning, however you can stay in this level until all the fundamental movements are comfortable to you. You will always come away with something new from week-to-week, session-to-session, year-to-year. No prior dance experience is necessary for this class.

Class attire is fitted comfortable clothes. No skirts so as instructor can see the knees and lower back position.

Example: Full fitted or half coverage top (as to see tummy) Yoga pant, Stretchy pant, or shorts with or without hip scarf or coin belt and bare feet. Hip scarves are available to purchase.

Intermediate: In this class we move from the Fundamentals to teach you a wider vocabulary of belly dance "Oriental" movements (such as figure eights in all parts of the body, Egyptian twist, belly flutters, floor work, & body undulations) as well as traveling steps & turns. Here we work on perfecting technique with full break-downs & step-combinations that can improve your posture, flexibility, balance, grace, muscle isolation & control, and add a deeper meaning and confidence in the movement. Each week we put these new moves deeper into your muscle memory and you finish a "dedicated" session with a full & a strong sense of body awareness. Then it is time to develop your skills to yet a deeper level of grace and elegance. As each dancer has learned the necessary tools to perform at this level, they are also expressing more and more of their unique and beautiful personality in their dance. This challenging class is designed to continue offering new material for each individual. (Keeping belly dance fresh and new.), to develop grace and elegance in the performance, and to add to your own unique style of belly dance. You will always come away with something new from week-to-week, session-to-session, year-to-year. Props may be used is some sessions.

Prior belly dance experience is necessary for this class. You must complete Beginners Belly Dance class first.

Dancing in the Streets is A FUN TIME and is a fundraiser for the Kewaunee County Food Pantry.

This choral reading is a special session highlighting multiple publishers for current and newly released choral pieces for church choirs of all varieties. This session will include titles for Christmas, Lent, Communion and General. We will also answer questions on instrument integration, technology, digital pianos and more. Crooked Lake/Mountain Lions Club 4th annual Family Fun Fest has the community going Hawaiian to celebrate our 50th State. Serving pulled pork, hot dogs and pineapple salsa with chips. The Town of Grand Chute Police & Fire Department is hosting the 29th annual National Night Out, it is sponsored by the Citizens Police Academy Alumni and the National Sponsor "Target". Location will be at Lions Park in Grand Chute. The event features a static display of emergency vehicles, police & fire demonstrations, Theda Star arrival at 5:00 p.m., and visit from McGruff. CENTRAL WISCONSIN TURNS BACK TO 1959 Symco, WI... For the fourth year, the annual Symco Shakedown Hot Rod and Rockabilly Weekend will take over the tiny town of Symco, WI.

Just three miles north of Manawa, WI, Unionville Village is turned back to 1959. Flat black hot rods, good old Rock & Roll and all that the good ol' days had to offer makes “Summer camp for hot rodders” an event not to miss. There are hundreds of 1964 and earlier hot rods, custom cars and vintage motorcycles, along with a antique bicycle display, acres of vendors and camping on site. Well over a dozen rockabilly, surf and garage bands provided entertainment until 11pm both Friday and Saturday nights.

This is NOT a car show, it is a lifestyle event. For 2012, perfect weather is ordered! But we have plenty of cover if it does not. Music on three stages, two of which are inside. You will see a village filled with vehicles and equipment typical of those that roamed the street of America during the post-war era from the late 1940’s thru the 1960’s. Don't forget that many of our participants dress the part.

30 lucky gals will be competing in the 2nd annual Miss Symco pinup contest. They can be previewed at www.misssymco.com.

Live rock-a-billy, surf and garage bands will provide entertainment throughout the two-day show. Only $30 per site for the weekend! There will be a large automotive swap meet, and dozens of commercial vendors! Our 4th annual mini-bike drag races will be held Saturday on the thresheree’s clay track, immediately following the Miss Symco competition.

Throughout the two days, the Union Threshermen demonstrate TONS of vintage equipment that Larry Werth and the group have collected over the years.

Plenty of good food and beverages will be available at the show. Food and drink prices are affordable. Breakfast is available each morning. The Union Thresheree provides $1 tap beer, $5 pitchers and $2 cans all weekend.

The historic Symco venue is known nationwide as the home to the National Antique Tractor Pull which is held every July during the Symco Thresheree. The showground’s itself feature a treasure trove of Americana with dozens of historic buildings featuring thousands of antique signs, gas pumps, stationary engines and the like. Watch one of the 6 Fairbanks/Morris stationary engines run! There is also an operating sawmill, along with a blacksmith shop, on the grounds.

Other attractions include a barbershop, post office, print shop, firehouse, a jail, a bank and other early 20th century displays. There is even an operating feed mill powered by a functional water wheel.

St. Margaret Mary will host a Used Book Sale with a Brat Fry/Bake Sale on Friday and Saturday, August 10th and 11th from 9am-4pm at 610 Division Street in Neenah. The family and friends of Leslie and Chris Smith are uniting to raise money to help Leslie fight her battle with ovarian cancer. Leslie is the daughter of Rick and Jayne Immel of Dotyville. Chris is the son of Ed and Joanne of Rockford, IL. Chris is a graduate of Marian University. His employment at Menard’s in Fond du Lac opened the door for his job promotion which took the couple to Springfield, IL.

Leslie was diagnosed with a mass in her ovary when she was three months pregnant. Shortly before Christmas 2011, she underwent surgery to have the mass removed.

She was told she had Stage 3 ovarian cancer. On February 4, 2012, she was rushed to the hospital with breathing difficulties. The cancer had returned and affected the pregnancy. Their daughter, Jocelyn Rose Smith, was stillborn the next day.

While the couple has health insurance, numerous surgeries, chemotherapy, ongoing hospital stays, medication and other expenses have caused added stress for the couple. Family and friends have come together to support Leslie and Chris. All proceeds will be donated to Leslie Smith to help in her battle with ovarian cancer.

Nicole Helsel, 22, of De Pere was in a head-on automobile crash on May 13, 2012 on Hwy 26 in Rosendale, WI. She was cut out of her vehicle with The Jaws of Life and Lifeflighted to Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah. She had a 3 hour surgery and was hospitalized 6 days. Her injuries included lacerated and bleeding liver, hairline fracture of the spine, sprained wrists, multiple fractures in her left foot, and a severe break in her right tibial bone that required immediate surgery. Her knee also had a large laceration that had to be surgically closed. Her friends and family are having a benefit to try to offset some of the medical costs that insurance does not cover as well as upcoming surgery she is going to need. There is a motorcycle ride beginning with registration 10:30 am till 11:30 am and ride leaving at Noon. There is a benefit with food, raffles and silent auction items starting @ 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm. This is being held at Kimmer's Bar, 702 N. Quincy St., Green Bay, WI. Some of the items to be auctioned are a handmade wood chairs with table, 2 preseason Packer game tickets, and an autographed Packer football donated by The Packer Pro Shop (entire 2011 team signatures) and much more. Entry donations are being asked for at the door and includes lunch.
