The State of Wisconsin Board on Aging and Long Term Care is currently recruiting volunteer Ombudsman for Northeast Wisconsin nursing facilities. The role of volunteer Ombudsman is to become an advocate for long term care facility residents. Volunteer Ombudsman must pass a rigorous screening process in order to qualify for the position. Food Addicts Anonymous is an organization that believes that Food Addiction is a biochemical disorder that occurs at a cellular level and therefore cannot be cured by willpower or by therapy alone. We feel that food addiction is not a moral or character issue. This Twelve Step program believes that food addiction can be managed by abstaining from (eliminating) addictive foods, following a program of sound nutrition (a food plan), and working the Twelve Steps of the program. After we have gone through a process of withdrawal from addictive foods many of us have experienced miraculous life-style changes. There are no dues or fees required for membership, but only a desire to stop eating addictive foods.

The Waterboard Warriors Water Ski Team offers a family-friendly environment, performing free ski shows for the community. The show provides a variety of acts including large pyramids, barefooting, jump, strap doubles, ballet, and more. The show is themed with costumes and music for a unique and entertaining experience. The ski site is located in Brown County Park, in Wrightstown, half-way between Green Bay and Appleton on the East side of the Fox River. Many people bring lawnchairs and / or blankets to sit on during the show. Sunglasses are recommended. We do have concessions available on site including water, soda, candy, snacks, and more. Historic walking tour exploring the center section of Oshkosh’s Riverside Cemetery, first platted in 1887. Using early-20th century newspaper accounts as resources, the tour concentrates on the cemetery as a piece of property which truly reflected and changed with the times. This class meets once a week for six weeks. Living Well with Chronic Conditions is a six week class lasting 2.5 hours each week. Learn techniques to deal with the symptoms of chronic condition(s), fatigue, pain, stress and emotional problems such as depression, anger, fear and frustration. Other topics include: exercise, healthy eating, appropriate use of medications and working more effectively with health care providers. This is for anyone living with a chronic condition or caring for someone with a chronic condition.

Tailgate is a fabulous tasting event featuring wonderful food, specialty beverages, live and silent auctions, and so much more! It’s a good bet that it will be the crowd at the Sunshine House Tenth Annual Corn Festival who will be wearing the biggest smiles. The Corn Festival will be held at Schopf’s Hilltop Dairy: one mile east of Carlsville on County Trunk I. Proceeds from the festival benefit Sunshine House Inc. and the individuals with developmental disabilities who they serve. What will be causing all of the smiles? This year’s festival will include something for everyone. The Corn Café will be featuring brats, hot dogs, burgers, cheeseburgers, pulled pork sandwiches, corn, chips, cookies, and more. The LAST Annual Day on the Alpaca Farm will be held Saturday, September 1st, from 10 am-3 pm at KeLe Alpacas, Kewaunee, WI. The public is invited to tour the alpaca farm, enjoy live music, visit with a number of area alpaca breeders, and walk alpacas through the woods. Spinning, weaving and felting demonstrations, children’s games, face painting and more. Burgers and brats and booyah will be available.

Day on the Alpaca Farm is a fundraiser for the Violence Intervention Project (VIP) which provides services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Kewaunee County. There is no charge for admission to the event, but people are encouraged to make a donation.

The alpacas do their fundraising part by taking walks with visitors for $2.00, giving kisses and being a great photo opportunity. Attendees are welcome to pull up a lawn chair and watch the activities and the alpacas in the pasture.

Pink Ribbons and Iron Horses innaugral motorcycle ride for breast cancer will be held on Sept. 8, 2012. Registration opens at 8am. Kick-stands up at 10:15. Ride is 50 miles each direction, riding from Hollanders Pub and Grill, Little Chute, to Iron Buffalo in Menchalville, and back. The Panther Pride Run/Walk, formally the Hot Cake Hustle, is a 5K run or walk and a 10K run through Oconto Falls over the Falls Fun Fest weekend. The Sole Singers, a youth group that performed concerts and recorded albums from 1968 to 1983, will come together again for a reunion on September 8^th at Erb Park in Appleton. Since then each year we hold an event to raise money to purchase items that would benefit the dogs and their handlers.

St. John Lutheran, De Pere, is hosting a church picnic on Sunday, September 16. Everyone in the area is invited to the event, which will begin with an inspiring outdoor worship service at 10:30 a.m., followed by food and fun at noon.

The two mile walk will take participants through Downtown Green Bay, on the Fox River Trail and end on the Fallfest grounds. Fallfest on the Fox will host the famous Chili Cook-Off, a popular children’s area with games, bounce house and children’s entertainer, Randy Peterson. Downtown vendors and restaurants will provide a market food and shopping experience. Finally, crowd favorite, Big Mouth will play from Noon – 2:00 pm.

The Chilton Booster Club has a partnership with Dodge! On September 14, 2012, between 3:30 and 6:30, at Morrissey Park before the high school football game, Chilton Booster Club will hold a Dodge Booster Club Fundraiser.

Here's how it works. Vande Hey Brantmeier Central Garage of Chilton will bring new Dodge vehicles to the event. Parents, faculty, and guests can earn $20 for the Chilton Booster Club by taking a brief test drive and completing a short survey. Anyone with valid driver's license, age 18 or over, can drive for dollars. The whole community is invited!

There's no sales pressure in this friendly, low-key program. Vande Hey Brantmeier Central Garage of Chilton staff members have volunteered to work the fundraiser. They will help out with the drives, answer product questions, and "talk cars with interested parents and students.

The driving course is short - less than 10 minutes. We could raise a lot of $$$ in less than 4 hours if everyone participates!

The Southern Door Community Auditorium (SDCA) is partnering with the Southern Door Business Association to sponsor a free Flight of Success community concert by Boogie and the Yo-Yoz at 7 p.m. Sept. 1 at the Brussels Town Park and Community Center. The concert kicks off the season for the SDCA.

Boogie and the Yo-Yoz have entertained audiences all over Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest for more than 10 years, performing with national acts such as Survivor, Blues Traveler, Cheap Trick, REO Speedwagon, and Journey. Their extensive repertoire of songs and high-energy style will create a night filled with great music for all ages.

The Fond du Lac Women's Chorus will kick off it's 2012--13 concert season on Monday September 10 with a potluck social on Monday september 10 6:30p.m. at Memorial Baptist Church 645 /Forest Avenue Fond du Lac. New members post high school age and older are invited to join.

The Foond du Lac Women's chorus is comprised of women from all walks of life who have a common love of singing. No audtions are required. Normal rehearsal times for the group are 7p.m. to 8:30p.m. on Monday evenings.

The first semester is spent preapring for it's annual winter concert which takes place on Sunday January 13, 2013 2p.m. at Memorial Baptist Church. The theme is "Reminissing The Holidays". The spring concert which will be taking place on May 19 2p.m. at the same location will have a patriotic theme.

The chorus performs at area nursing homes and community functions. Fthey wiull be performingt on Monday October 1 at St. Peter's Place 50 East First Street in Fond du Lac. Those who were unabloe to attend the spring concert will have the opportunity to see a repeat performance of it there.

The Fond du Lac Women's Chorus is under the direction of Kris Bartelt with Georgene Antos as accompanist. Membership dues are $30 per semester which is used for chorus expenses.

Lovingkindness meditation is a mindful practice that allows one to focus on affirmative and loving expression towards ourselves and others. Care Improvement Plus is hosting a hands-on educational event in Green Bay as part of National Medicare Education Week (Sept. 15 – 22, 2012). The event is designed to help baby boomers, Medicare beneficiaries, their families and caregivers learn more about Medicare, social media, and how to find the Medicare coverage that’s best for them. Attendees can also participate in hands-on breakout sessions to learn how to use online resources to understand Medicare and manage their health care needs. This is a CHARITY CAR SHOW held in Pulaski Wisconsin. (Memorial Park). There are many classes offered for show participants. Wild Rose Community Memorial Hospital is hosting its second annual Casino Night Fundraiser to raise funds for our diagnostic women's health services. The Community Clothes Closet will host an evening of fun and pampering during its Shoe La-La fundraiser. Shoe La-La will be held at Liberty Hall in Kimberly on Friday, September 21, from 6:30 pm until 9:00 pm. Rochele (Szprejda) Jaskolski is in need of a kidney transplant. She is a diabetic and found out her kidneys are deteriorating. In August 2011 she was told she would need to start dialysis this year. She lost her license due to the medications she was taking. Shelly will be starting dialysis in August 2012, and will need to travel to Green Bay every other day. She will also be traveling to Madison once a month once she is signed up on the list. She has type B+ blood and will be put on the bottom of the list. Shelly and her husband need to build a sterile room so she can so her dialysis at home. The money raised will be going for hospital bills, transportation and a sterile room.

KITCHEN REMODELING IN FOCUS AT CITIZENSFIRST

OSHKOSH, Wisconsin (Aug. 30, 2011) – With kitchen remodels on the rise in spite of a sluggish economy, area residents can find out what’s hot and what’s not at an upcoming free seminar hosted by CitizensFirst Credit Union.

“How to Design a Dream Kitchen for the Real World,” will take place Tuesday, Sept. 11 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Highway 44 branch, 2900 Universal St., Oshkosh. “Kitchen remodels are big deal right now given the economy,” said Marcus Butts, community partnership coordinator at CitizensFirst. “We think a program like this is one way to help empower people to improve their home value while waiting for the economy to turn around.”

According to industry reports, kitchen remodeling continues to be one of the best means of improving and maintaining home value. The national average cost of these projects is reported to be just under $20,000 and typically includes new cabinet doors and drawers, as well as new countertops and appliances.

In addition to the seminar, participants are encouraged to get further ideas and inspiration by attending CitizensFirst’s HomeStyle Kitchen Tour, which takes place Saturday, Sept. 15. The first ever kitchen tour event opens the doors to five newly remodeled Oshkosh kitchens, with proceeds going to benefit the Christine Anne Center. In November 2011 on Russ’ 50th birthday he successfully underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor. This surgery left him unable to work for over 4 months. Then from March to May 2012 Russ endured 26 radiation treatments to two smaller brain tumors which have so far yielded positive results. However Russ will need to be closely monitored for any return of the tumors. Russ has been dealing with cancer for over 40 years and has continued to keep an upbeat attitude through all of this.

Through all of this Russ has continued to work but because it is a small company they do not offer health insurance. Unfortunately prior to the seizure, Russ’ wife Shelly lost her job to downsizing and was uninsured during this difficult time resulting in astronomical medical bills causing them financial hardship.

The money raised will be used for medical and living expenses.

Children’s activities’ also include a fire hose water challenge, a fire safety puppet show, a visit from the Shriner’s fire safety clown “Puddles”, and Winnebago Co. Sheriff’s Department will visit with their police dog. Adults and children together will enjoy displays on chainsaw safety, fireplace safety, homes and fire safety, candle safety, including dryer safety by the Dryer Vent Wizard. The Oshkosh Police Department seatbelt convincer and snowmobiles provided by Ecklund Motorsports will also be there! Additional safety booths include Liberty Insurance, Fox Valley Stone & Brick, AAA Insurance, WE Energies, and State Farm Insurance. We are also offering FREE car seat inspections by Safe Kids – Fox Valley car seat technicians.

Food and refreshments will be available with proceeds benefitting the fire department’s fire and life safety education program. Join us at Safety Day 2012 on Saturday, September 8, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., at Fire Station #40 in the Town of Menasha 1326 Cold Spring Road.

In March of 2011, Todd Levy was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. His treatment continues to be aggressive, and requires frequent travel to Froedert Hospital in Milwaukee. Friends and family will be holding a benefit for Todd to help offset medical expenses.
