The State of Wisconsin Board on Aging and Long Term Care is currently recruiting volunteer Ombudsman for Northeast Wisconsin nursing facilities. The role of volunteer Ombudsman is to become an advocate for long term care facility residents. Volunteer Ombudsman must pass a rigorous screening process in order to qualify for the position. Food Addicts Anonymous is an organization that believes that Food Addiction is a biochemical disorder that occurs at a cellular level and therefore cannot be cured by willpower or by therapy alone. We feel that food addiction is not a moral or character issue. This Twelve Step program believes that food addiction can be managed by abstaining from (eliminating) addictive foods, following a program of sound nutrition (a food plan), and working the Twelve Steps of the program. After we have gone through a process of withdrawal from addictive foods many of us have experienced miraculous life-style changes. There are no dues or fees required for membership, but only a desire to stop eating addictive foods.

What was Appleton like during the Progressive Era (1850 – 1920)? The turn of the century was a period of speculation and excitement. Americans felt the excitement of world fairs and new technologies entering their daily lives. This new exhibit at the History Museum hinges on Appleton’s evolution from a fledgling manufacturing town to a modern industrial center. Through a collection of 3,000 photographs, amateur photographer W.D. Schlafer captured this rapidly changing environment during the Progressive Era in the Fox Cities. Visitors will see how much Appleton and the Fox Cities evolved as new technologies and ideas changed the lives of area residents during this transformative period.

Heritage Hill State Historical Park is pleased to welcome re-enactors from across the state for its Civil War Re-enactment weekend. Relay for Life is a fun community event to celebrate cancer survivors, remember those we have lost, and fight back for those who still battle this disease. At Relay, teams of people camp out for 12 hours overnight (because cancer never sleeps) and take turns walking or running around a track. Each team has a member on the track at all times during the event.

The 2012 Neenah-Menasha Relay for Life will take place starting Friday, June 15^th, at 6 pm. It will go until 6 am Saturday, June 16^th and will be held at Neenah High School. With your help, the 2012 Relay will be even better. Contributions make a difference by supporting vital programs in research, advocacy, health education, and patient services.

Old Guy Walk - The Plan

I want to bring awareness to lung cancer and try to raise some money to find better methods of detection. This walk is in memory of my mom, and everybody else who died too soon.

Originally I was going to walk the entire way but because of a serious joint problem with my right knee I had to follow my Doctors advice not to mention my wife's strong opinion!

I plan to start my trip June 9th beginning at Point Beach State Park in Two Rivers, Wisconsin and will walk & bike across the state. My travels will cover approximately 240 miles and take 6 to 7 days to complete.

The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.

The 62nd Annual Appleton Flag Day Parade will be a tribute to the U.S. Coast Guard with a theme of "Honoring Traditions" to celebrate the U.S. Flag and all it stands for.
The parade will feature military units and military marching bands from throughout the nation — and will include about 100 total units displaying patriotic themes. Units will consist of veterans' organizations, scout troops, patriotic floats, decorated vehicles, walking units, along with marching bands.

Cheyenne, the star of the book, will be along for audience members to learn more about pot belly pigs as pets, interacting with audience members, and playing her childrens piano. This is a free community event and cameras are welcome.

This book tells fun, lighthearted stories of events that have taken place with the author while owning a pot belly pig who truly does live in the house. Stories include Cheyenne visiting Santa, visits to the public library prior to the book being published, a birthday party for a pot belly pig with 20 guests and the game pin the tail on the pig, as well as many other fun stories. Most stories have a color photograph as well.

A book signing and book sale will follow the presentation.

The “Bark N’ Blue” Benefit is a fund raising effort on behalf of the Green Bay Police Department K-9 program. The 2012 “Bark N’ Blue” is scheduled to take place on Thursday June 7th, 2012, in Downtown Green Bay at St. Brendan’s Inn. This free event is open to the public with on-site demonstrations by the K-9 teams, live music, activities for kids, and food and drink specials.

The Green Bay Police Department currently utilizes five K-9 teams. The K-9 program has one narcotic dog, Yukon (German Shepherd). The other four dogs are patrol dogs: Feit (German Shepherd), Vilak (German Shepard), George (German Shepard) and Neo (Belgian Malinois). Neo is the department’s first Belgian Malinois. In 2010, the teams were responsible for the following service calls: 135 narcotic searches, 121 narcotic finds, 102 trackings, 92 building searches, 66 prevent escapes, 120 arrests and 33 article finds. The K-9 officers and their partners add a valuable dimension to the provision of police services in this city.

The Bark N’ Blue is a community event created and run by volunteers. It serves as an educational resource, as well as an opportunity to generate funds for the program. Proceeds from the event will allow continued sustainability of K-9 services, with no financial burden to the police department. Currently all of the GBPD dogs were trained in-house by K-9 Officer Shannon Mulrine. Officer Mulrine has over 20 years of K-9 experience with the department. His expertise has allowed the police department to forego the outsourcing of K-9 training. Officer Mulrine has put the K-9 officers and their partners through initial training and also provides continual training that keeps the dogs’ and handlers’ certifications current. Providing K-9 teams the opportunity to maintain this level of training has a substantial cost to any police department. By utilizing Officer Mulrine’s expertise, GBPD has been able to save money while having a top-notch K-9 department. In 2012, Officer Mulrine is retiring from the Green Bay Police Department. The Department will be faced with the loss of this valuable resource of knowledge. Money generated from the 2012 “Bark N’ Blue” event will be allotted to “groom” a replacement for Officer Mulrine.

The Bellevue Community Picnic is scheduled for Saturday June 9 at Josten Park in Bellevue. The annual community celebration will include a water fight competition between area fire fighter’s, children’s activities and games, silent auction, food, beverages, and booyah. New this year will be a very entertaining local band “Shaker and the Egg” providing musical entertainment from 5 to 9 pm. Although the picnic has been a Bellevue tradition for many years, this is the fourth year that the picnic has been jointly sponsored by the Bellevue Fire Fighter’s Association along with the Bellevue Lion’s Club. Proceeds from the event help the Bellevue Fire Fighter’s Association purchase life saving support equipment. For the Bellevue Lion’s Club, proceeds from the annual community picnic have been a major source of the over $140,000 of charitable contributions donated to worthy local causes since the club was chartered in 1995. These contributions include a long list of such charitable items as the annual funding of vision screening for local pre-schools and grade schools, funding eye examinations in partnership with Lens Crafters and donation of a Vision Viewer to the visually impaired. We are putting on a benefit to help the Family of Samantha V. Smith. Samantha was a beautiful young woman at the age of 24, she had a bright future ahead of her with the man she loved and her two small children. But things can change in an instant.
Samantha was killed in a car crash on January 9, 2012. She was an amazing mom to Matthew (5) and Olivia (3). Both children have medical conditions that could cause financial struggles for them and their caregivers. Hopefully, this will present them with opportunities for a promising future in life. Rapid improvement or kaizen activities which implement change in organization processes are one of the most important elements in a successful lean implementation. The morning sun sends mystical shafts through the fog drifting over the green fields to glint off of the polished plate armor of combatants taking to the field of honor. In sharp contrast, the sun also illuminates gentile ladies ringed around the field, some working cross-stitch, some spinning thread, some preparing a morning repast for after the battle. The peaceful morning sounds of birds calling and the warm breeze blowing through the trees that surround the field is shattered with the cry of, “Lay on!” The battle begins and armored bodies rush each other to try to get in the killing blow. The sound of rattan swords ringing off of armored bodies fills the air. A bard’s voice suddenly joins the din as his heart fills him with the need to recount other historic battles to help inspire his comrades on the field.

Designed for small business owners, this monthly, learning and connecting event feature experts sharing best practices about issues and topics affecting small business owners. A key component to this new series is engaging the audience. This isn’t your typical, sit and be lectured to kind of affair. Instead, you’ll be required to pay attention and interact. The Kewaunee County 30th Annual Breakfast on the Farm will be held on Sunday, June 10th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Jauquet Dairy, LLC located at N6249 Hillview Road, Luxemburg. The Kewaunee County Dairy Promotion Committee is very excited about this year’s Breakfast on the Farm. The host farm Jauquet Dairy was the first dairy to host the Breakfast on the Farm 30 years ago.
The all-you-can-eat dairy brunch menu includes a ham & cheese omelette, pizza, fresh rolls & butter, cheese samples, strawberry sundaes, yogurt samples, deep-fried cheese curds, mozzarella sticks and milk. There will be a Non-Denominational Church Service starting at 7:30 am. Entertainment throughout the day will include performances by the Luxemburg-Casco Community Band and ??? Polka Band. Children’s activities include horse drawn-wagon rides, petting zoo, face painting and many other fun filled games.
Admissions is $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 4-12, and kids age 3 and under are free. The breakfast on the farm is sponsored by Kewaunee County Dairy Promotion Committee, Inc.

Two Day Festival June 9th and 10th at St Agnes Parish on the corner of Ninth and Fisk Streets in Green Bay. Saturday's events begin at 5:00 p.m with an Italian Dinner, Food/Beer Tent and music by the 80's Rock Band Replica.

Sunday's activities begin at 10:15 with a Polka Mass by the New Generation Polka Band. Activities included in the day are Food & Beer tent, International Foods, Silent Auction, Children's Games & Mascots, Big new Infatable and the Country Band Red Clover in the afternoon.

Through out Sunday we will also be honoring Military and Emergency Personnel. There will be a Flag Ceremony and playing of taps at 1:30 p.m. Gift bags for the first 200 special guests. Displysand vehicles from honored groups.

Lean is a “learn by doing” strategy and learning from others is a key component. Individually scope and implement a project with instructor support. Project presentations include information on project selection, data gathering, event planning or any component of the seminar material. The seminar includes two hours per participant of consultation and/or a site visit between “Lean Overview” and “Lean Project” seminars.

This 16-hour seminar teaches the requirements for PV system design and installation. Learn basic installation techniques, including system sizing, system layout, electrical safety, wiring methods and basic one-line drawings.

This 16-hour session explores the basics of photovoltaic (PV) systems. Learn how PV systems work and describe and identify system components. Recognize and explain PV system types and limitations of each system type. Define the solar window, make energy efficiency recommendations, estimate system loads and understand the basics of PV site assessment.

This 36-hour seminar teaches advanced PV system design and installation techniques. Learn how to size a system, select components, design document the system and install and commission a working PV system. The system will be installed on our 30’x50’ training roof which demonstrates mounting methods on composite and metal roofing.

Her young age, strength and large support system are all things that will help her battle through this. Our mother began her treatment on Christmas Eve and has been battling courageously ever since while continuing to work full time. With medical expenses piling up and increased time away from work we are planning this event to help limit the amount of financial obstacles our family will have to overcome. Please help our family fight this exhausting battle.

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Fox Valley is offering a free program in June for parents and others who work with school-age children dealing with mental health disorders. S.P.A.R.K., Supporting Parents as Advocates and Resources for Kids, offers 18 hours of education on issues relating to mental illnesses in children and teens, and available school and community resources.

The three-day course will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 12-14 (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday), and located at the D.J. Bordini Center (directly across from Fox Valley Technical College) in Appleton.

The course will cover brain biology in children and teens; an overview of the major mental illnesses; suicide risk and assessment; classroom strategies; de-escalation techniques; coping skills; family support plans, and other topics.

The award-winning, 19-piece Lawrence University Jazz Ensemble performs original works by composers from Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Haiti, Norway, Puerto Rico, Sweden and the United States. Highlighting the concert will be the world premiere of "La Caraibeenne," an original work showcasing composer Gessoit Pierre Louis, a visiting student at Lawrence from Haiti, as both conductor and saxophone soloist. The concert also will include student-arranged versions of "Conflicting Stories" by Croatian composer Tino Derado and "Reincarnation of a Lovebird" by American jazz legend Charles Mingus. Kirtan is a form of meditative chanting whose roots go back over 500 years to India. It is a form of Bhakti Yoga (Dhyana- the yoga of devotion) and has the power to open the heart. In its heartfelt expression Kirtan can induce profound states of meditation and bliss.

Dennis Hawk has given Kirtan a new twist- a very up-beat-contemporary call-response format that gets people singing and moving. Utilizing ancient sacred languages (Sanskrit, Greek, Hebrew and Latin) as well as English, limiting the length of phrases, and using repetition (which IS the secret power of ancient chant), these songs open the heart allowing the feelings and the songs to flow freely.

We will be having a benefit for Waylon Becker who is a 30 year old young man who has been a healthy individual all his life. He has recently begun his fight with impossible medical conditions. It all began when Waylon started experiencing back pains and flu like symptoms. Things took a turn for the worse very quickly. He has been in the hospital since April 17...Doctors still have no idea what is wrong with him. He is currently at Froedert Hospital in Milwaukee in the ICU. The Green Bay Correctional Institution is opening its front lawn to the public on Saturday June 16, 2012 for an old-fashioned booyah and brat fry fundraiser to benefit Freedom House, Brown County’s only shelter serving all types of homeless families with children. On Saturday, June 23, Hometown Veterinary Clinic in Oconto Falls will host a “Bark For Life” walk to benefit the American Cancer Society and their search for a cancer cure. This one mile walk for people and their canine companions will begin at 9:00 am at Hometown Veterinary Clinic, 180 E Highland Drive.

Participants will receive a gift bag and t-shirt as well as a bandana for their canine walking partner(s). All participants are encouraged to bring their dogs and families. Food will be provided after the walk. All participants will be entered into a drawing for raffle prizes. Pet photos and other activities will also be available! The cost is $25 per person in advance or $30 after June 18. Registration on the day of the walk begins at 8:00 am.

Ivy Trails Garden Center to Host Pink Day Fundraiser

Event part of campaign to raise $1 million for Breast Cancer Research Foundation

Green Bay, WI (May 29, 2012) – Ivy Trails Garden Center will host “Pink Day”, a breast cancer fundraiser on Saturday, June 23rd, 2012 as part of the Invincibelle® Spirit Campaign to raise $1 million for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). The event is open to the public and will be located at 3200 Main St., Green Bay, WI. Ivy Trails is located on the East side of Green Bay about 3 miles past Fleet Farm East on Main St. or just off I-43 at the Bellevue Exit.

Beginning at 9:00 a.m., the public is invited to dress in pink clothing and costumes, and enjoy live music, food, and purchase raffle tickets to win pink prizes. Event goers can also make a donation to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for a pink balloon in “memory of” or in “honour of” a special person in their life who has been touched by breast cancer. The balloons will be released at the end of the day to honour these gifts.

Ivy Trails Garden Center chose to get involved in this campaign because breast cancer is a cause that is close to many of us as well as our customers. Approximately one in eight women run the risk of developing breast cancer at some point in her life, so we all know someone who has been affected by this disease. Hosting this event is a great opportunity to have fun and raise money for a good cause.

The Invincibelle® Spirit campaign gathers support from garden centers across North America in a joint effort to host fundraisers for BCRF. As part of the campaign, garden centers will also be displaying the new Invincibelle® Spirit pink ‘Annabelle’ hydrangea. For every Invincibelle® Spirit hydrangea sold, $1.00 will be donated to the BCRF. Like the women who have survived breast cancer, this new hydrangea is resilient and can withstand extreme conditions. It blooms from mid-summer to fall, even after harsh winters, making it a wonderful pink addition for your garden. For every dollar the BCRF receives, a minimum of 85 cents goes towards research and awareness programs.

The third annual Poker on the Fox charity poker run and boat show benefiting the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund is scheduled for June 30^th weekend.

The event is open to the public with poker hands at $40.00 a hand. The winning hand will receive $1,500.00 for first, $750.00 for second, $250.00 for third and $40.00 for the worst hand.

The Waupaca Chain Skiers perform Saturday nights on Rainbow Lake (part of the Chain 'O Lakes in King/Waupaca) at 6:30pm with a pre-show at 6pm. Family friendly shows are free and can be viewed from the lawn at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King (bring a blanket or chair). The Chain Skiers took 3rd place at the State Tournament last year and member Ryan Struve was the 2011 "D2 Most Outstanding Trick Skier" and also won the Overall Tournament "Outstanding Male Skier" award. The Chain Skiers are also holding a fundraiser at the Indian Crossing Casino on June 30th following the ski show from 8pm - 12:30am. Infant/Toddler Clinics: (Summer: Sunday july 29 Aug 19 Sept 9)

This hour long clinic will give you and your child a chance to experience Swimtastic's amazing infant lessons that begin at 6 months to 2 years, and independent toddler swim lessons for 2 year olds. You'll get a chance to swim in our 90-degree pool, go down our waterslide, and receive a lesson by our professionally trained swim instructors. You will also receive a Free Family Swim Pass for attending! This clinic is FREE so bring a friend and see what Swimtastic is all about!

Dog Swim to benefit the Friends of Winnebago County Dog Parks - a fundraiser to improve current dog park at Winnebago County Park, and for the acquisition of a new dog park in Winnebago County
$5.00 per dog. One dog person to raise money for the dog parks in Winnebago County WI.
We gave multiple dates this year they are below. Please remember to bring WRITTEN proof of rabies for each dog. NO tags will be accepted.
Additional rules are:
• Only well behaved dogs are allowed. • Owners are responsible for their dogs at ALL times, including cleaning up after their dogs.
• One dog per adult person (18+).
• No dogs in heat.
• We reserve the right to dismiss any dog for unruly or aggressive behavior.
• There will be no human swimming at this event.

Come enjoy the produce and the products on display at the Green Bay Farmer's Market every Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon through October 27th, by the corner of Cherry and Monroe streets in downtown Green Bay.

Kids of all ages are encouraged to participate in the FREE .18 mile course. Race categories include ages 6-7, 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. A bike parade will be offered for children under the age of 6. Bike decorating will begin during the HealthWorks Street Fair at 2:30pm. Bike helmets are required for participation in activities.
