Beat the winter blahs with crisp, hot waffles, dripping with real Door County maple syrup, warm homemade cherry sauce topped with real dairy whipped cream. Staff and volunteers of The Ridges Sanctuary invite you for the third annual “Great Waffle Breakfast” ( to celebrate the anniversary of Emma Toft's birth) on Saturday, February 5th from 9 AM to 11 PM at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall. Free-will offering
When you have eaten your fill you are invited to sit and visit with neighbors or refresh your skills at building Legos®, playing Scrabble® (all words must be nature oriented), or participate in a nature activity. All those who attend will receive a free Ridges’ Trail Pass to hike the bridges and boardwalks enjoying the winter wonders of The Ridges Sanctuary.
The Ridges Sanctuary owes its existence to a group of visionaries who saw value in the extraordinary biodiversity of the Baileys Harbor “bog”. Emma Toft was one of the most vocal and persistent of those visionaries, and the Great Waffle Breakfast celebrates the 119th anniversary of her birthday . Thanks to the work of “Miss Emma,” the other founders, and all its members since 1937, today the Sanctuary preserves over 1600 acres in Baileys Harbor and near Clark Lake.

Ward off midwinter cabin fever at the 24th Annual Fish Creek Winter Festival February 4-6, 2011. Wacky winter-themed carnival games for all ages under the big tent are the highlight of the event but the festival offers more than just goofy fun. From wine tasting to trolley rides, a popular winter parade, and even candlelight cross country skiing, there truly is a reason for everyone to head to visit Fish Creek for Winter Festival.
Play and eat all day under the heated tent, located on the waterfront in Fish Creek’s Clark Park, with music, raffles and a long list of fun and funky games—including minnow races, ice bowling, a snow shoe dance, and a variety of “tossing” events using toilet seats and footballs to bikes—as well as the debut of human foosball. All-day games starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Celebrity judges will also be under the tent tasting the chili cook-off entries to determine cash prizes at noon. Food and beverages—including beer, wine and grog—will be available under the tent.
Wine tasting and orchard sleigh rides are in order at the Winter Wine and Cherry Fest at Orchard County Winery and Market from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, while the Peninsula School of Art ladles up steaming helpings of homemade soup in handcrafted pottery bowls with their annual SOUP! event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Kids can build a kite at the Y from 9 to 10 a.m. and take in the fun and funky parade on Main Street at 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning. A treasure hunt for kids will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the Top of the Hill Shops. Carved ice sculptures will be featured at Fish Creek businesses throughout town. And don’t miss the boisterous Great American Pancake Show from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Gibraltar fire station.
Enjoy the shops, boutiques and parks of Fish Creek as well as the many Winter Festival activities with a complimentary ride on a Door County Trolley from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Trolley stops include Orchard Country Winery and Market, Founders Square, the main Festival Tent, the Settlement Shops, Top of the Hill Shops and Peninsula School of Art.
After the games are over, grab some cross country skis for an evening candlelight ski experience through Peninsula State Park from 5:30 to 8 p.m. or cheer on your favorite singer at the 7th annual Door County Idol from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Door Community Auditorium. Then, dance the night away at the Rock n Roll Snow Dance with Big Mouth at Alexander’s in Fish Creek starting at 9 p.m.
Winter Festival weekend kicks off with ice carving at local businesses and some great adult fun at the Hands On Art Studio with the Rock n Roll Art Night 6:30 to 10 p.m. The festival winds down Sunday morning with a bit of wacky amusement at 10:10 a.m. with the second annual Fruit Loop, a half mile costumed winter fun that concludes with an actual Fruit Loop breakfast of champions under the Winter Festival tent.

Human Foosball Tournament--a new twist on an old game.
Everyone has played foosball at the bar but now the time has come to give human foosball a try. The Human Foosball Tournament makes its exhibition debut at the 24th annual Fish Creek Winter Games on Saturday, Feb. 5 with the first game starting at 10:30 a.m. Spectators can prepared for a fun and wacky sight unseen in Fish Creek history. For life size foosball fun, eight teams consisting of six members each will face off in the ice rink off Clark Park. Players will be attached to a pole along a cable—a row of three players, a row of two players, and goalie for each team—and work and move in concert with each other to send the ball into the goal and rack up a winning score. Each game will consist of two periods with a break in between; winners will advance to the semifinal and final rounds to the championship game at 3:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams with bragging rights included. Spectators will enjoy a great view of the tournament from Clark Park—dedicated fans may want to bring a lawn chair—where food and beverages will be available all day in the heated tent (carry-ins are not allowed).
Other wacky Winter Festival games for all ages will be taking place at the tent all day as well.layers must be 18 years of age. $30 entry fee per team. For Human Foosball Tournament team sign-up and entry forms, please contact Digger at the Fish Creek Information Center (920) 868-2316. Sign-up deadline is February 1.
