Celebrate the Niagara Escarpment

Come see the newest temporary exhibits at the Weis Earth Science Museum on “the Ledge”—the steep rock cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment, which extends across much of North America.

This exhibit showcases the paintings of the Water’s Edge Artists, who have formed a collaboration with the Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership to conserve Wisconsin precious land and water resources. These artists create their paintings “on location” in nature (en plein air). All paintings on exhibit at the Weis are available for purchase.

Also featured is a mini-exhibit highlighting the geology and history of the Niagara Escarpment. It includes a game to see if you can match photos of the ledge to their location. The Weis is open seven days a week to the public. Please check our website or give us a call for our business hours. Exhibit ends December 31, 2010.

Voices of Peace Gospel Music Fest

On Friday & Saturday, August 20 & 21, 2010, at the Hilbert Civic Park located on Highway 57/32, in Hilbert, WI. The “Voices of Peace” will host their 6th annual Gospel Fest from 2 PM to 10 PM on Friday, and from 10 AM to 9 PM on Saturday. No admission fees will be charged, just a freewill donation. Bring your lawn chairs, family, and be ready for a wonderful, spirit filled weekend! There will be 20 performing groups, playing country, bluegrass, and southern gospel music from: Iowa, Ohio, Illinois, Missouri, Minnesota, Michigan, Nebraska, Tennessee, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Food, snacks & refreshments will be available on the grounds, Brats and hamburgers, Friday and Saturday, Fish Fry on Friday and chicken breasts on Saturday.

Farmers' Market On Broadway

Description: Watch the market grow each week when you visit the BayCare Clinic presents Farmers’ Market On Broadway. Vendors line the downtown streets of the Broadway District to showcase products from fresh fruits and vegetables to bouquets of flowers and local original artwork. Live music fills the air, and event-goers can sip on wine or beer as they stroll the market. They can even shop local businesses as some will be open late.
Attendance: 2,000-4,000 per week totaling more than 60,000 per season in 2009

These are Intermediate Level Rides, which means the pace is 14-16 mph; the rider needs to have Intermediate cycling skills, being able to ride in a group & assist in repairs; may include mid-range terrain with some hills, be brisk but socially paced, with occasional stops to re-group & distance of 20-30 miles; ride will include a Leader &/or someone who will sweep the group during the ride, assist with repairs/issues & try to keep the group together.

The 5th Annual Kites Over Lake Michigan continues to grow in size and reputation. This is now one of the largest kite festivals in the Midwest and attracts kitefliers from all over. Come and marvel at the giant show kites, precision stunt kite teams flying dual- and quad-line kites, spectacular and colorful ground displays, running of the bols and games for kids. Learn how to fly two and quad line stunt kites from the experts representing kite manufacturers. There will be a night fly on Saturday night and a bonfire on the beach. New this year will be the fireworks finale after the release of Sky Lanterns on the beach. On Sunday, there will be free kite making for kids and another day of kite flying and performances. Free shuttle service available to and from the beach at designated downtown areas.

Enjoy spring with a family trip to EAA AirVenture Museum and Pioneer Airport located in Oshkosh, just east of US 41 and State Road 44, at 3000 Poberezny Road. The new flying season opens Saturday, May 1 at Pioneer Airport, with vintage aircraft activities, plus Young Eagles flights. During the summer months (May-October), a short tram ride from the museum takes you to Pioneer Airport, our unique �living history� re-creation of what airports were like during the early days of air travel. More than 50 vintage airplanes are displayed in seven period hangers designed to take you back to aviation�s �Golden Age� of the 1920s and 30s, a time when the magic of flying astounded and charmed the whole world. Fascinating displays include a tribute to the legendary local air racer, designer, and builder Steve Wittman, namesake of Oshkosh�s Wittman Regional Airport. Younger visitors will enjoy a play area with swings and pedal planes. For kids aged between 8 and 17, a free Young Eagles airplane flight may be available.

Most important of all, Pioneer Airport is a place to savor the sights and sounds of vintage flying machines in their �natural habitat.� Flights take place from Pioneer Airport�s grass runway every day during the season when weather permits. You may also see demonstration flights from planes such as EAA�s replica of Charles Lindbergh�s Spirit of St. Louis and the stunning Pitcairn Mailwing biplane once flown by Howard Hughes. Depending on availability and flying conditions, you may want to experience a memorable jaunt in one of several vintage aircraft:

� 1929 Travel Air E-4000, a classic open-cockpit biplane. Seats 1 passenger, $70. (Must be 16 years of age to ride.)
� 1927 Swallow, a unique and newly restored bi-plane is a dream flight. Seats one passenger, $70. (Must be 16 years of age to ride.)
Pioneer Airport is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from the first weekend in May through October. Open daily Memorial Day to Labor Monday-Saturday 8:30am to 5:00pm,Sunday 10:00am to 5:00pm. Pioneer Airport is closed for flights during the annual EAA AirVenture convention, but the hangars are open for aircraft viewing.

Day on the Alpaca Farm

The 12th annual Day on the Alpaca Farm will be held Saturday, September 4, from 10 am-3 pm at KeLe Alpacas, Kewaunee, WI. The public is invited to tour the alpaca farm, enjoy live music, visit with a number of area alpaca breeders, and walk alpacas through the woods. Spinning, weaving and felting demonstrations, children�s games, face painting and more. Burgers and brats and booyah will be available.

Day on the Alpaca Farm is a fundraiser for the Violence Intervention Project (VIP) which provides services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Kewaunee County. There is no charge for admission to the event, but people are encouraged to make a donation.

The alpacas do their fundraising part by taking walks with visitors for $2.00, giving kisses and being a great photo opportunity. Attendees are welcome to pull up a lawn chair and watch the cria (baby alpacas) romp in the pasture.

The 2010 Labor Day festivities will again take place on Labor Day Monday September 6^th in South Park in Oshkosh. Along with the picnic we will be having our 10^th annual Antique and Classic Automobile Show all day in the park. Food and refreshments will be sold from 11:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. live music will be from 12 noon till 4:00 P.M. Raffle prizes will be given away and Bingo will be played all day at the picnic. The State of Wisconsin Board on Aging and Long Term Care is currently recruiting volunteer Ombudsman for Northeast Wisconsin nursing facilities. The role of volunteer Ombudsman is to become an advocate for long term care facility residents. Volunteer Ombudsman must pass a rigorous screening process in order to qualify for the position. LENA DAIRY FEST 2010 SEPTEMBER 10 & 11

This year will be our 26^th Lena Dairy Fest. All events and youth activities will again be free of charge. No other community in NE Wisconsin does that.

This year on Friday we will have a lawn tractor pull to start off the 2010 event. The pull should start about 6:30 P.M. – 7 P.M. There will be no charge to see the pulls. Vendors will be available for food and beverages.

On Saturday we will have inflatable’s for the kids, a climbing wall, pony rides, some heavy duty tractor pulls, petting zoo, horse drawn wagon rides, music, fireworks at dusk, along with food and refreshments. Included this year we will have our first annual car show with a special Kids Wagon Class, and additional 8 classes including over all Best of Show and People’s Choice voting, with trophies in all classes. Saturday’s events start with a parade at 10:30 a.m. This year we want to encourage parade participants to decorate their entries in a way that represents the spirit of Lena Dairy Fest. First and Second prizes of $200 and $100 will be awarded to the best entries. The Car show participants can join in the parade with the car show starting after the parade. Line up for the parade starts at 8 a.m. at the VFW on Main Street. Early registration for the car show will begin at 8 a.m – Noon.

Southern Gypsy/ Haze, an award winning band from Northeast Wisconsin, will be playing Saturday from 3:30 p.m. until 8:00 PM. Haze, based out of the Fox Cities, is one of the most premier vocal groups to come out of the Midwest, winning such contests and awards as the “Star Search” Vocal Group Midwest winners, and were finalists on “Be a Star” in Nashville to name a few. Haze is a high energy, crowd pleasing versatile act that performs country rock and classic rock and are regional favorites booked at Country USA for the last 8 years. They have performed with such national recording artists as Montgomery Gentry, Collin Raye, Emerson Drive, Charlie Daniels, 38 Special and STYX.

This event is in honor of Sgt. Nickolas Mueller who was killed on October 26th, 2009 when his helicopter was shot down in the Badghis Province of Northwestern Afghanistan. Nick was a mission qualified MH-47G Crew Chief on a Chinock Helicopter who flew over 412 combat flight hours. He was the assistant training NCO. "For he loved to fight, fought to win." NSDQ.

Come on the motorcycle Run to the Ladder House in Sturgeon Bay and then back to the 5th Quarter in Little Chute for Kids activities, Military Vehicle display, Raffles, food, silent auction, nake sale and live music by Homemade Brew and Nashville Pipeline. The Emcee is John Maino from WIXX.

Bike Run registration starts at 8:30 at the 5th Quarter in Little Chute. Ride leaves at 10:00. The event starts at 2:00 with a DJ from Fortune Talent DJs.

Fallen Timbers Environmental Center is hosting its fourth annual non-competitive bicycle event for individuals and families. Saturday, September 11, 2010. Ride for the Timbers' routes circulate through Outagamie, Shawano, and Waupaca Counties incorporating flat, rolling, and hilly terrain through beautiful countryside. All four routes (10.5, 25, Metric 100, and 100-mile routes) begin and end at the Center. Entry fees on or before August 27 are $25.00 for an individual, $12.00/child (12 years or younger), or $65.00/family of four. After August 27, the fees are $30.00/individual, $15.00/child, or $75.00/family of four. Toddler Trails

Heckrodt Wetland Reserve's early childhood program series, "ToddlerTrails," meets the first and third Thursday of every month from 10 to 11 A.M. at the Heckrodt Nature Center. The program is designed for toddlers 12 to 36 months, accompanied by a parent or other adult.

Toddlers use their senses to explore their worlds every day -- touching, smelling, seeing, and listening. Toddler Trails provides a child-friendly experience guided by a naturalist, where they can explore nature using all these senses and more!

The fee for Toddler Trails is $4 per adult/child pair, $2 for additional older siblings. Note that toddlers require parental assistance; older siblings must be able to attend to themselves as program participants. A discounted rate for three consecutive sessions is available for $10/adult-child pair. There is no charge for children under 12 months or additional adults.

The National Railroad Museum's 2nd Annual Golf Outing plans are underway. The outing will be held on Friday, September 17, 2010 at the Royal St. Patrick's Golf Links in Wrightstown, WI. Mark your calendars. The Tee�d Off at MS Charity Golf Outing will be held on Friday, September 17th, 2010 at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, WI. All proceeds will go to The National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society, helping to fund research and education to help find a cure. Volunteers, sponsors and of course, golfers are all needed to make this event a success.

The 18-hole scramble begins with a 12:00 pm shotgun start. A box lunch will be served on the course and a picnic dinner will be held in the clubhouse afterward. Door prizes, silent auction and a raffle will be available to all golfers and attendees. Golf registration is $80 per person and is open to the public. Sponsorship opportunities are available ranging from $100�$3000.

5th Annual Walk for Wildlife

Participants can choose to walk on a scenic 2.5 mile trail or quarter-mile paved walk for strollers or wagons. Animal ambassadors, such as hawks, skunks, owls and porcupines will greet people as they hike the trail. In addition to meeting ambassadors, walkers will encounter artifacts and other interesting information along the way. Registration forms can be picked up at the Sanctuary or downloaded at www.baybeachwildlife.com. Walkers have the option of collecting pledges in addition to the walk fee. Registration with a shirt is $15 for adults (13 and up) and $7 for kids (12 and under). Registration only (without a t-shirt) is $10 for adults and free for kids. All proceeds benefit the Sanctuary's animal rehabilitation program.

After the events of "Ice Age: The Meltdown", life begins to change for Manny and his friends: Scrat is still on the hunt to hold onto his beloved acorn, while finding a possible romance in a female sabre-toothed squirrel named Scratte. Manny and Ellie, having since become an item, are expecting a baby, which leaves Manny anxious to ensure that everything is perfect for when his baby arrives. Diego is fed up with being treated like a house-cat and ponders the notion that he is becoming too laid-back. Sid begins to wish for a family of his own, and so steals some dinosaur eggs which leads to Sid ending up in a strange underground world where his herd must rescue him, while dodging dinosaurs and facing danger left and right, and meeting up with a one-eyed weasel known as Buck who hunts dinosaurs intently.

Womens self defense /protection class,Sunday,Sept. 26th 1pm at pamprin park in Green bay if the weather is bad you will need to contact me and we will go to tri county gymnastics. Pass it along to others you think might be interested .

I am a 7th dan Shidoshi that has been teaching for over 17 years. I feel that some of my greater bounds in my learning process is through some of my instruction to women and children not to say the least going to Japan to train.
I would like to set aside a Sunday afternoon and teach a 3 hr session based on womens defense and protection.I would be hands on instruction with me or another instructor. Held outdoors at Pamprin park,back past the garden.The cost would be $25 a person feel free to bring a friend.3 hours is not nearly enough time to cover everything but if theres interst we
could easily schedule another session or 2 for 2 hrs each.
